Slab-fish: description, features of fishing and habitat

These very elegant golden-black inhabitants of the sea depths are harshly named fish-croaker because of the distinctive withers, resembling boar. Another fish is called a drummer, a grumbler, a corvina, a meagrom, umbrina, and melopemia. I gave some nicknames to the croaker for their ability to make peculiar sounds, reminiscent of the sound of drum sticks, grumbling.

The croaker does not like vanity

A croaker is a fish that loves to “hang out” among underwater rocks and stones. Divers, moving through the gloomy realm of Neptune, recognize drummers by their round, flattened silhouettes and lazy immobility. It seems that the pack is kept in place by a lot of invisible strings. The sleepy state is deceptive: the embarrassing movement of the diver - and the “company” of the crooks is instantly hidden in the grotto.

Although the croaker is a large fish (some individuals reach a length of 70 cm, there are more respectable specimens), it cannot be seen from the surface of the water. A lover of quiet and secluded places, the croaker prefers to keep close to algae and chewing up small fish cheerfully: here the table and the house are always ready for him.

Having appeared not far from the dense living veil of drummers, the hunter immediately tries to throw the harpoon at random, hoping that he will immediately return with the loot (or even double). But it is not so easy to chop a fish, as a rule, since Corvina has a lightning reaction.

Trustful but cautious

Indeed, the fish is not afraid of the slab of divers (small habitats tend to drive small habitats). But to act on the principle of “impudence - the second fishing happiness” is not worth it. The flock is instantly mobilized: there was a fish - yes, it swam, only a tail in a dark cleft waggle. The second exit will happen only in a few hours and will be much more careful. True, the next day, the croaks "remember no evil, " they are again calm and trusting. Smooth ride, accurate sight - and waiting for a harpooner luck. He will definitely return home with glorious loot, for the sake of which he has started his underwater voyage.

In the Black and Azov seas there is a croaker of two types - light and dark. Black is found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. So the geography of hunting can be the most diverse, most importantly, it is good to learn the characteristics of fishing - and go! At the Russian Fishing Forum, the light croaker fish is described as a rarer species that is larger than its dark counterpart. He has a mustache on his lower jaw. He is a tasty prey for fishermen. Umbrinu (bright slab) amateur anglers successfully caught from the shore, as well as from a boat (boat). The latter method is inconvenient: the croaker quickly grabs the bait and runs off into the rocks. Getting him out of there, staying on the surface of the water, is very difficult. Most preference is given to rods, the benefit of modern gear can be cast at a distance of up to 50 meters from the location of the fisherman. A tough carbon-fiber fishing gear or a donk will do (as hooks are possible, you need to take a strong fishing line with a thickness of 0.6-7 mm). Also good spinning, which is easy to display grumblers.

So, you decided to go for such prey, like a fish slab. What to catch her? This question worries many anglers. There are so many ways of catching that their description can be a weighty volume.

Changes color

A freshly caught dark croaker is a poured chameleon, originally golden black, nobly brilliant. However, after a while he turns white. It takes a little more, and returns to its original form, only more dim. Nutritious, tasty, rather expensive slab fish (the price according to some information ranges from 300 to 1000 rubles per 1 kilogram) is appreciated in cooking. Many dishes are prepared from it, even entrecotes.

In the native water element, Corvina looks much more “funnier” (than in a frying pan): black, or rather dark purple color is set off by light bronze on the sides and gills. The belly is silvery-white, snow-colored fins. Sheer elegance! Slowness and importance of the breed is explained by the fact that there are few enemies in its water element.

The drummer feeds on small animals, mollusks, adores crabs. At night, at high tide, rakes up to the shore to easily collect prey. In other cases, the slab prefers to be at a depth of 6-8 meters. Individuals of different size and age live in family-flocks. The houses are large stone blocks and deep slabs.

Lives settled

Flocks do not like to change their habitat. Drawing up a plan of action, sea hunters take into account this principle of settled life. After approaching the fish site, they need to carefully scour the large crevices, stones, wander among the underwater rocks, go to the grottoes, look under the plates. Here it is, croaker! Fish must be found.

We have already said that you need to look very carefully. Metal parts of underwater equipment clattering on stones can ruin everything. Experienced hunters have come up with a variety of methods to muffle and soften possible blows. In the course is electrical tape. Strings and receivers of rifles to wrap it - a matter of minutes, and what good! To mitigate the contact of equipment and underwater objects, craftsmen also use used camera rubber from a bicycle.

Illumination will help

In the Black Sea, the underwater “backwaters” have long been mastered. Numerous hunters and divers changed the habits of the fish. Usually gullible, the slab hardly walks in the open space, especially not worth family shoals and, as they say between the hunters, does not form "hangers".

Seeing the long-awaited group of croaker fish in the open, do not rush to release the harpoon. Trapping the fish in the shelter - that's what you need! Even when it seems to you that the stone is empty - do not believe your eyes. Better turn on the underwater light and check again. Surely in the thick darkness lurked gorgeous specimens! All the time to carry a beacon with them is optional. You can leave it on the buoy and, if necessary, use it.

In search of fish, move along the coast in a zigzag way: now moving away, now approaching land. If the stones are less than one and a half meters in diameter, they can be avoided; large ones should be carefully examined. Examine the shelf, terrain, and the location of the cliffs. Talk to the locals - any information can come in handy. A high cliff on land has a continuation under water. In terms of hunting, narrow stone rows (ridges) are interesting.

Stock up with a float

You come from the side of the closed ridge in the direction from depth to the coast. Looking into the crevice, keep a gun ready. By the way, the croaker loves the space under the pieces of slabs that have fallen off from the underwater elevation. Often, a signal to the fact that there are big drummers somewhere close by is the presence of small stacks of fish - the swallows. 15 cm "girlfriends" hover over the stone - check all the shelters below. Swallows, unlike slabs, can be seen from the surface.

Finding stones where the grumbler laid down, mark the place with a bright inflatable buoy. Otherwise, you can easily lose it. Thus, it is necessary to ensure that the float is always with you. The buoy is a multifunctional thing: it is possible to hang a lantern, a kukan (a device for carrying fish), a reserve gun, etc. on it.

Take the correct position

Some additional hunting rules:

  • The tip of the harpoon should be directed strictly in accordance with your view (sight).
  • If the slab in the mink is relatively easily accessible, you can shoot right away, but if the fish is turned to your head or tail, wait until it turns around.
  • It happens that drummers occupy a difficult position. Maybe they are barely visible in the gap, covered with a stone or shy from side to side, trying to dodge an uninvited observer.
  • What if you take a flexible stance? For example, go on the right side, leave a glove or flashlight there, and go over to the left side of the shelter yourself and shove a gun deeper? Squeezed by the circumstances, the croaker will stop turning and become available prey.

  • Before you pull the trigger, think about whether you can eventually get the grumbler. Pull carefully, and then it will fall off the tip - and goodbye, catch! You can try to act by the method from the opposite: by going on the other side of the stone, drag the fish with a harpoon and only then take up a gun.
  • As soon as you get the opportunity to grab the fish, do it. Holding the harpoon with one hand, press the croaker with the other. Strong fish easily breaks, so it is better to err. Before removing the drummer from the spear, put him on the kukan, puncturing the bottom with a needle through the gills of the head.

Wherever the slab-fish was found - the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, the ocean expanses - this is no reason to behave predatory. A real underwater hunter never seeks to exterminate the entire pack. I caught two or three fish - and that's enough. This is the wisdom of life, however!
