Dimitri Payet is a French professional footballer who plays in the Olympic Lyon club and the French national team as a right midfielder (sometimes an attacker). The football player is known for his filigree style of the game - it is notable for high-precision bending impact and amazing dribbling technique.
Dimitri Payet was born on March 29, 1987 in Saint-Pierre (Réunion region), France. Dimitri started his football career at the local clubs Saint-Philippe and Saint-Perrois. In 1999, the guy moved to the capital, where he joined the famous football club "Le Havre". As part of the "celestial and dark blue" Payet spent four seasons, after which he went to play in the youth club "AC Excelsor", where he spent only one season. In 2004, the Frenchman began to play for the Nantes youth team and the very next year he signed his first professional contract here.
Professional career at Nantes
In the 2005/06 season, Dimitri Payet quickly established himself as one of the best players in the reserve team. In his debut season for reservists, the young Frenchman took part in 22 matches and became the author of six goals. Influential game of a talented recruit led to the fact that he was called to the main team in December 2005. The then head coach of the Canaries was Serge Le Desette. Payet made his professional debut on December 19 of the same year in a match against Bordeaux club, replacing in the second half (the match ended in a goalless draw). His first goal for “Nantes” Dimitri scored the goal of “Mets”, thereby exaggerating the scoring advantage of his team (4-1 victory). In total, the Frenchman played two seasons in the Canaries, scoring 5 goals in 33 matches. In the 2006/07 season, “Nantes” flew to the lower division, so the ambitious Frenchman decided to leave the team, having in stock several lucrative offers from clubs from Ligue 1.
Career for Saint-Etienne
After leaving Nantes, some French clubs became interested in Dimitri Payet's candidacy. The most assertive were Sochaux and Saint-Etienne. It's no secret to anyone that the latter won in this dispute. Ultimately, between “Nantes” and “Saint-Etienne” an agreement was signed on the transfer of a player for 4 million euros, the French contract was registered for four years. In the first season for the "green" Payet struggled to establish himself in the first team. We have to admit that the ambitious midfielder did it. On August 4, 2007, he made his debut for Les Verts in a match against Monaco (a draw, 1-1). Subsequent games in League 1 Dimitri often went into the starting lineup, but for the whole season the midfielder could not score a goal. Scoring streak began in the 2008/09 season, where Dimitri was noted 7 times in 42 games. In the same season, Payet made his debut in the UEFA Cup. In total, for the "Saint-Etienne" played until 2011, where in 129 matches scored 19 goals.
Career for Lille
On June 28, 2011, it was officially announced that football player Dimitri Payet signed a four-year contract with Lille for 9 million euros. The debut game for the new team took place on July 27 in the match for the French Super Cup against Marseille (4-5 defeat). October 15 marked the debut goal for the “dog” in the gate “Auxerre” (3-1 victory). In general, he played for Lille until 2013, where he scored 18 goals in 71 matches. Here the football player revealed his hidden talents of the passing and the choice of position in the attack. Often he played the role of playmaker, for which he was recognized as the best assistant in the team.
Go to the "Olympic Marseille"
On June 27, 2013, Marseille signed a contract with midfielder Dimitri Payet for 4.5 years. The transfer value of the player was 11 million euros. On August 11, in the debut game against Gengam, the Frenchman scored a double in the first 15 minutes of the match, which ended in a victory for Marseille with a score of 3-1. In the second and last season, Dimitri managed to give the most assists than any other player, with the exception of Lionel Messi, in the top five European football leagues (England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France) for the “white-blue” ones. In the period from 2013 to 2015, Payet became the author of 16 goals in 94 matches for the Provencels.
Transition to English "West Ham" and return to "Marseille"
June 26, 2015 Payet joined the club from the English Premier League West Ham United, where he signed a five-year contract. It was reported that the Frenchman was not going to leave Marseille at all, but did so in order to improve the financial position of the club, which saved him 10.7 million euros. At the same time, the French club released such key players as Florian Tauvin and Giannelli Imbull. On August 9, Dimitri made his debut for the “Hammers” in the match against Arsenal in London, where he scored an assist from a penalty kick on Sheikh Kuyata (the match in favor of West, 2-0).
Six days later, Payet scored his own goal for the “iron” in a duel against Leicester City, but his goal did not help the team avoid defeat from the future champions of England (1-2 in favor of the “Foxes”). For two seasons of the Premier League, the Frenchman scored 11 goals for the Hammers in 49 matches. Despite the fact that in 2016 a new five-year contract was signed with the club "West Ham", the player returned to the disposal of "Marseille" in the 2017/18 season.
Wife of Dimitri Payet
Real football fans remember and will never forget the Euro-2016 battles with Dimitri. In the 89th minute, in the first match of the European Championship, Payet scored a goal against the Romanian national team, giving a victory to his country (2-1). After this match, the football world drew attention to the beautiful wife of Dimitri Payet, who in an interview praised her spouse for the most beautiful goal of the entire tournament (which is hard to argue with). His six-year-old son, who called this strike "the best in the world", also expressed his words of support and thanks.
